Aviva
Transformation of Southgate in Bath city centre by Aviva working in partnership with Bath & North East Somerset. 50,000 sqm of shopping and leisure, with residential above, and car parking underground, and a new public transport interchange and arrival space from Brunel’s Bath Spa railway station. One of my longest running projects at Drivers Jonas, 15 years. Working with an amazing team including Chapman Taylor lead architects (the heart of the scheme), Wilkinson Eyre (on the bus station and interchange with Bath Spa railway station), Strutt & Parker, and Guy Shearer. Saw the project through every stage from a Local Plan allocation, to testing multiple options with the Council, to a major planning application which went through 3 planning committee meetings and major changes until finally being endorsed by the Council’s architectural adviser Sir William Whitfield. Then worked with our CPO team led by Richard Owen to secure the compulsory acquisition of the remaining interests in the site following a CPO inquiry. Resisted an out of centre competing proposal working with Mary Cook.
